Micah Watson Band: bio

The Micah Watson Band

Born just north of Atlanta GA, Micah spent most of his early life as a missionary kid with his parents overseas. “Basically from age three until I was eighteen my parents and I lived in Jerusalem, Israel. My father was passionate about making the name of Jesus known, he was a man of tremendous faith, and depended wholly on God.”

On New Years Eve 1990, Micah answered the call to follow Jesus. The next day, he met up with his Youth Pastor in Jerusalem to tell him the good news. “He knew I loved music, and he handed me one of his guitars and a box of Christian tapes. I went home and devoured them! I spent hours in front of my little tape recorder learning how to play guitar by listening to White Heart, Petra, and tons of other late 80’s Christian bands. I’ve never known what it’s like to be a musician apart from Christ – I fell in love with Christ and the guitar on the same day - obviously One is more important, I can live without the guitar!”

Soon after, Micah began to write his own songs. “They were terrible songs! But my youth leader invested so much time in my friends and I. He bought some recording equipment, taught us some chords, and listened to our teenage angst, our attempts at worship songs, and a few broken hearted laments about Girlfriends who had dumped us. As I look back on that now - it was true discipleship. Just time together talking about life, music, and God.”

After graduating High School in Jerusalem, Micah moved to Nashville, TN where he attended Belmont University. While at Belmont, he met his wife, Heather; formed a band that would eventually go on the road full time; and said good-bye to his father, who passed away after a fight with cancer.

After College, Micah travelled full-time as the front man of the band ‘no apples for adam.’ The band travelled mainly across the Eastern half of the United States performing for youth groups, church congregations, summer camps, and music festivals. “The modern worship movement was just beginning to take shape, and everywhere we’d go, people would ask us to perform these new worship songs. Honestly, I fought it! I didn’t want to play other peoples songs! But whenever I would lead in worship I would always hear someone say - ‘You have an anointing on your life for this.’ I didn’t get it then, but I see now that God was preparing me for a new ministry.”

After ‘no apples for adam,’ Micah accepted positions leading worship at churches in Indiana and Virginia. “I surrendered to the calling that I initially tried to fight. God has given me a passion to write, lead, and teach Scripturally sound worship music to the Church - it’s that simple! How does God change lives? Through the Holy Spirit and through His Word. If people can get into an environment where they are singing God’s word and encountering the Spirit - lives will be changed forever to the glory of God.”

This year marks a new chapter in Micah’s life and ministry. He has recorded an album, ‘Daughters and Sons,’ which was produced by Third Day’s Mac Powell. With this, he has set out on tour to teach and lead these new songs to congregations everywhere.

“There is an attack on today’s family. The enemy has his sights set on husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, daughters and sons. Why? Because he knows if he can destroy our idea of permanence in marriage, he can destroy our idea of permanence as the bride of Christ. And he knows that if he can destroy our relationships with our mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers then he can destroy our view of God as our Father and our sense of belonging in His family - the Church. The Bible holds the truth - We are daughters and sons and God is our Father forever! We are the bride of Christ. The enemy of our lives is defeated! I want the church to sing this truth out and sing it loud - ‘We are daughters and we are sons, and HE is our salvation.’”
